Artist Statement - Term Exhibition

Natalie Artist Statement

The art works I did this term include "Long Exposure", "Excursion, Photo essay", "Career and Photography Research Assignment", "Stop Motion", "Photoshop editing", "Idiom" and "Time".

Long exposure is about using a long duration shutter speed to capture a stationary element of image like the path of moving lights in the dark; Photo essay is to use some images to describe a place; Career and photography research is to search a career and explain what it does; Stop motion is to use one click to capture how the object changes; Photoshop editing is to use Photoshop to make changes to the image, such as combining images into one; Idiom is to use Photoshop to show the meaning on the surface and explain what's the meaning literally. Time is to show how time means to you.

I did my time assignment with putting my phone in front of the window for two hours to capture how the sun moves from the same angle. For stop motion. I place my phone from the top of a long board on two chairs and place the camera downward to shot objects and to move objects underneath the board; if I want to make the video look smooth, I just need to move the objects a little bit and continue.

My goal as an artist is to record memorable moments in my daily life and I think I learn more methods to create a work. Things that I learn this term was a challenge as the things I learned was totally new to me and at first I imagined it as using making videos from our computer but it isn't, so it actually subvert my imagination. If I do it again, as I know what's happening, I think I can do it better and I will put more effort in it.

Stop Motion

This stop motion just spent me a few minutes to finish and I did it individually. I think this assignment is quite easy but I would rather use computer graphic to present my work.

Long Exposure

I think making a long exposure photo is not easy as you need to wait for the timing and you need to adjust the angle for taking the photo in order to make it the best. The assignment is quite fun as we don't need any special equipment to finish it.
